This project is a branding design for Columbus Corner Bakery. The client recently purchased the bakery and needed a new brand that would showcase a clear purpose to the direction of the company.
Concept The client was in need of a logo and had very few ideas. After research it was made clear the main demographics for the bakery are women between the age 35 to 60. The imagery for the bakery up to this point has been plain flyers created in Microsoft word and they didn’t have a website, but only a Facebook page.
Sketches Creating a logo started with collecting visuals for creation and designing based on a soft color and cakes.
The Process The problem with the initial logo began with one major issue, they didn’t produce cupcakes. I wanted to revise their identity to reflex exactly what brings the most capital and what the bakery was known for. I ranged from a stylistic layered cakes, to that which had more clean lines and structure. The client needed a logo that could easy translate to t-shirts, labels and business cards.
The Resonating Colors Making a color scheme which connects the audience with the intended message was no small feat. Using the soft and harsher colors in the pink family offered a soft feel to the identity which resonates well.
The Font Decisions Choosing the typeface based on the identity being compelling to the demographics was the next task. After much research and experiments with cursive “feminine” fonts and softer fonts we landed on Baskerville Old Face. This font spoke both to the clean and precise way the client wanted to be remembered as well as the softer appeal which connects with the cake itself. This font style offered much flexibility which allows for it to be used in body text as well for flyers, posters, and other marketing material.
The Brand Redesigned After much designing and research the final product realized. The client loved the simple multi-tiered cake sitting inside of the capital letter C. In comparison to the old logo it reflects the main selling item of the bakery and connects the name of the bakery clearly to the motif.
